Consortium expects to complete new Panama Canal locks on time

The third set of locks is scheduled to be presented on October 21, 2014 as planned, said Grupo Unidos por el Canal de Panamá (GUPC).

Despite the strike of workers at GUPC, the consortium which is designing and building the third set of locks, the consortium and the Panama Canal Authority (ACP) said that the work will be finished on time.

Canal has preference in shipyard tendering

The company or consortium that wins the bidding for a 20-year concession to operate and manage the Balboa Drydock must have a compatibility study approved by the Panama Canal Authority (ACP).

The requirement is established in Title XIV of the Constitution, the Basic Law and the Regulation of compatibility with the waters and banks of the Canal.
