Colombian ports receive $1,000 million to cater to TLC cargo

Air France denies plan to cut 5,000 jobs

Air France swiftly denied claims in a French newspaper that it will shed 5,000 jobs as part of its restructure plan, “Transform 2015”.

The report said almost half of the job cuts would be accounted for through “natural wastage” because 800 staff leave France’s flagship carrier each year, while a program of voluntary redundancies, open to all categories of personnel including pilots, will lift the figure to 5,000.

LAN airline profits fall 22%

Chilean aviation has faced serious economic setbacks, aggravated primarily by the substantial increase in fuel costs.

The Chilean airline LAN, one of the leaders in Latin America, reported a net profit of $76.1 million in the first quarter of 2012, 21.8% less than that obtained in the same period last year.

Maersk Line is increasing rates on its Latin American routes in the face of higher fuel, steel, terminal and container costs.

On May 25 Maritime Week Americas (MWA) ended with great success in attendance and themes discussed.

The event, organized by the English company Petrospot, attracted some 400 people a day to hear the speakers and visit the exhibition fair.
