Dock strikes spread in Latin America

After the strike in Panama by workers of Panama Ports Company (PPC), demanding higher wages, in Latin America there have been two more strikes in the maritime sector. In Argentina, dock workers demanded higher wages while in Nicaragua, truckers have been on strike demanding new tariffs because of the price of fuel.

The Colombian Ministry of Labor imposed sanctions on 30 companies in the Buenaventura port sector for hiring temporary workers for periods of seven, eight and nine years.

The decision was made because, according to the Ministry of Labor, standards were violated such as overwork, lack of provision and no authorization for additional time and for not meeting the labor rules of Professional and Occupational Health Risks.
