Wallenius Wilhelmsen begins operations in Antofagasta

In December the Norwegian shipping line Wallenius Wilhelmsen made its second arrival at Antofagasta Internacional Terminal SA, after more than two years of negotiations with the port operator.

The ships come from Houston transporting mining equipment and machinery that can move under their own power.

The vessels operate on a service per month, besides giving Antofagasta a bonus to be the only terminal that handles this service on the north coast of Chile, making the port the best choice for mining companies and for imports and exports.

According to ATI the operation of ro-ro ships is challenging because they are not common in this area, which forces the company to design an operation different from the normal ones.

Ruben Zamora, Chief Commercial Manager of ATI, said, “For our terminal, it is important to be chosen as a port in the north and by a shipping company such as Wallenius Wilhelmsen, which is important worldwide, so we are very hopeful about this new business relationship that we have established, allowing us to expand our offering to international trade in the area.”
