The twenty-ninth ordinary session of the Assembly of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) unanimously elected engineer Arsenio Dominguez, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Panama to the IMO and Chairman of Marine Environmental Protection agency (MEPC) as President of the Technical Committee of that body.

Panama’s nomination was supported by a diverse number of heads of delegations of the member States to the IMO Assembly, which included the Commandant of the US Coast Guard, Admiral Paul F. Zukunft, Nigeria Thailand, the Netherlands, South Africa, Ukraine, Poland, Mexico, Guatemala and Honduras.

The Technical Committee deals with issues from all the main committees of the IMO (Maritime Safety Committee (MSC) and the Committee on Marine Environmental Protection (MEPC)), demonstrating the recognition of Panama in the organization in technical and legal expertise of the Panama Maritime Authority (AMP) and its leadership in the international maritime framework.
