New Chamber of Shipping Board for 2017-2018 period sworn in

In the Las Perlas Room of the Union Club on June 28, the ceremony was held inaugurating the Board of Directors of the Panama Chamber of Shipping for the 2017-2018 period. The new Board is presided by Julio de La Lastra, who holds the post for the fourth time in the history of the guild.

The event was held in the company of authorities such as Álvaro Alemán, Minister of the Presidency; Dulcidio de La Guardia, Minister of Economy and Finance; Jorge Barakat, Minister for Maritime Affairs and Jorge Luis Quijano, Administrator of the Panama Canal Authority, along with ambassadors, presidents of other guilds and associations and family members.

The evening continued with the oath of allegiance, given by Julio De La Lastra in his position as president, who then gave an interesting speech, in which he emphasized and congratulated the work of the Panama Maritime Authority and the Panama Canal Authority.

In addition, he emphasized the four pillars on which he will focus his management.

“The first is to always seek unity and consensus among members to carry at all times a consolidated union message that allows the Chamber to reach its objectives.

“Fourth, but not least, to form a critical mass of committed young people who contribute unselfishly to the sector, the guild and the country. “This generational change is needed to ensure that the Panama Chamber of Shipping remains in force for many more years,” he said.

To conclude the evening, the new president swore in the elected directors: Nicolás Vukelja, as First Vice President; Flor Torrijos, as Second Vice President; Javier Ortiz, as Treasurer: Wendy Sagel, as Secretary and as directors, Patricia Velásquez, Alexei Oduber , Veronica Valenzuela and Francisco Zeimetz before thanking outgoing president, Rommel Troetsch, for his praiseworthy work during his term as president of the guild.
