Chinese companies eye Colon Free Zone

Businessmen from various commercial sectors of the People’s Republic of China, distributors of hardware and technology, visited the City of Colón interested in knowing the operation of the Colon Free Zone, with a view to establishing companies.

The Chinese entrepreneurs were welcomed by the Manager of Zolicol, Manuel Grimaldo, The group is in Panama to participate with a pavilion in Expo F; an international trade fair for hardware, tools, fasteners and metalworking, with significance for the hardware and tools industry in Panama and Latin America.

General Manager Grimaldo spoke with the businessmen and said that “there is no free zone like Zolicol that offers greater competitive advantages to entrepreneurs to establish and distribute their merchandise from the Free Zone to the world.”

This delegation was led by the Asian businessman, Weng Jiaojiao, who was satisfied with the commercial environment visited.

Grimaldo motivated the entrepreneurs by offering them the logistics advantages of the Colon Free Zone, ports, airport, railroad, roads and an extended Canal; added, he said, with the legal security offered by the country with its tax incentives.

Likewise, the Free Zone Director of Marketing, Mireya Montemayor gave a welcoming address to these investors and explained the advantages and benefits of establishing a company within the commercial area.

The Manager pointed out that he is still focused on bringing the world to the Free Zone and that as China, is the main supplier, “We are working to increase the presence of more Chinese companies.”

From 2009 to 2015, nine Chinese enterprises have been established in the Colon Free Zone. From January to August of 2017, in imports the figure reached $2,272 million.
