Panama site of regional shipping event

The 48th Annual General Meeting, Exhibition and Conference of the Caribbean Shipping Association (CSA) was held in Panama this year, hosted by Manzanillo International Terminal (MIT).

Election of officers took place in the presence of more than 300 members from ports, shipping companies, shipping agencies, logistics companies and firms representing many related activities.

The membership was representative of most Caribbean islands, Central America, South America and the US east coast.

The association chose MIT marketing manager, Juan Carlos Croston, as president for the 2018-2019 period, after he had served a maximum term of several years as Vice-president. He replaced David Jean-Marie.

Vice president for the period is Marc Sampson, replacing Juan Carlos Croston.

It was agreed that next year’s – the 50th anniversary of the CSA – will be held in Kingston, Jamaica, where the 80th anniversary of the Jamaica Shipping Association will also be taking place.

Delegates were given an extensive overview of Panama as a logistics hub, visiting Manzanillo International Terminal on the Panama Canal Railway and the expanded Canal.

The event closed with round-table debates.
