CMA CGM strengthens environmental objectives

CMA-CGM GroupCMA-CGM Group appraised its advances on the occasion of World Environment Day proving that it cleans discharged water of any living organism that may damage marine life, without releasing chemicals into the sea.

The creation of its Fleet Navigation Center allows the Group’s vessels to optimize their routes to reduce their fuel consumption and, therefore, their CO2 emissions.

Thanks to these actions, the Group indicated that it has achieved a 50% reduction in CO2 emissions per container transported per kilometer between 2005 and 2015, in addition to an additional reduction of 17% between 2015 and 2018, which is in line with its goal of decreasing to -30% by 2025.

Energy transition

On the other hand, the Group pointed out that it is a pioneer in the use of liquefied natural gas (LNG) as a bunker fuel. This energy source reduces CO2 emissions by up to 25%, sulfur emissions and fine particles by 99% and nitrogen oxide emissions by 85%.

The company also stressed that since 2018, it has received its first two LNG vessels and expects the delivery of a total of 20 LNG container ships by 2022, including nine vessels of 22,000 TEUs that will be delivered next year.

In 2019, CMA CGM also became the first shipping company in the world to successfully test biofuel in one of its container ships.
