In reducing the risk of accidents in the North Terminal of Callao, APM Terminals, the company in charge of this port, introduced a new security system known as ZoneSafe.
It works through a radio frequency that gives operators audible and visual alerts about any object or person out of sight of the operator while handling the machinery.
This technology was originally used in the mining sector, and is being adapted successfully to the logistical needs of port operations. Performing for the first time worldwide in the Peruvian port, after several months of testing, APM Terminals Callao is awaiting the entire lot of ZoneSafe equipment which will make the Multipurpose North Terminal in Callao the safest port in the world.
The ZoneSafe system produces a detection zone that can be configured by the operator, from three to nine meters around a piece of machinery or area, which interacts with the transponders carried by personnel or other sources of risk.
When a transponder is close, ZoneSafe enters the detection area of an object and sends a visual and / or audible warning to the machine operator.
