Panama to host World Climate change meeting

The Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) confirmed the acceptance of an offer of Panama to host two meetings preparatory to the XV11 Session of the Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC (COP-17).

This meeting will be held in Durban, South Africa between November and December 2011. The meetings in Panama will be held from October 1 to 7.

Avianca-TACA adds more frequencies to Cuba

The airline Avianca-TACA has inaugurated new direct connections from El Salvador and Costa Rica and frequencies from Lima, Peru, to Cuba.

Fishermen train on maritime safety

A dozen fishermen from the Multi-purpose dock who formerly worked from the old Muelle Fiscal pier in Panama Bay, and officials of the Panama Maritime Authority (AMP) began a series of training seminars to create an awareness of the importance of safety.

Pirates grow bolder in Indian Ocean area

Pirate attacks off the coast of Somalia and in the Indian Ocean region rose dramatically over the first six months of this year. There have been more attacks than ever on ships, with the first armed raids in monsoon weather.

CENA approves $4.8 million for new AMP headquarters

An additional credit of $4,853.000 was approved by the National Economic Council (CENA) for the Panama Maritime Authority (AMP) to start building its new headquarters in Ancon, and the remodeling of docks and ports in the provinces of Chiriqui and Panama, said the Deputy Economy Minister Frank De Lima.
