The President of the Panama Chamber of Shipping, Willys Delvalle and engineer Marcela Vazquez, Rector of the Technological University of Panama (UTP) signed an agreement to develop cooperation channels for the exchange of experiences, information and knowledge, professional work experience, internships and jobs for graduation with companies of the guild, among other things.
As president of the Chamber, Delvalle is reinforcing the cooperation program for education by reaching out to the Ministry of Education and universities offering logistical and maritime career studies, and he considers that there is a high demand for trained professionals who are fluent in English.
“It is important that universities train suitable professionals, with initiatives and industry knowledge. This can be achieved to the extent that the private sector becomes a facilitator of professional practices and shares experiences and information with schools for programs that are designed according to the requirements of human resources in companies,” he said.
“We have to be part of the process if we want to build a new generation of professionals committed to sustainable development of the maritime sector and this helps us consolidate Panama as a logistics hub,” said Delvalle.
One of the actions during his term as president of the Chamber of Shipping is to strengthen education and this led to the signing of the agreement with the UTP that will promote the close relationship of the guild with this important university, that teaches a variety of maritime and logistics careers and is committed to the education of these students.
