Mysterious circumstances surround the death of the graduate engineering cadet of the Panama International Maritime University (UMIP), Dayra Wood Pino, aboard an oil tanker in the Gulf of Mexico.
The first public denouncement was made on television in Panama by Captain Luis Fruto, president of the Panamanian Association of Merchant Navy Officers (APOM).
He questioned why there had been such a long delay for the ship’s captain and the vessel’s owners to report the tragedy.
Much more reporting has been made on this case by Mexican newspapers. Following are two articles from “Vanguardia” and “Rotativo.” There is also a press release from the Panama Maritime Authority (AMP) stating that it had arrested the ship.
