EMI gives invaluable experience to UMIP cadets

As a result of a mutual cooperation agreement between the Panama International Maritime University (UMIP) and the company International Marine Experts (IME), senior managers of both met for an evaluation of obtaining cadets from the university through internships at the company during the past four years.

The UMIP rector, Victor Barahona-Luna accompanied by Julio Bonilla (Director) and Xiomara Coya of the of Shipping Department with Abdiel Marin, of the Leadership School, met with representatives of EMI – Robert H.

Emerick, President; Javier Bru, Managing Director; Eloy Collado, General Manager and Francisco Arosemena, Administrative & Finance Manager, along with cadets who have participated in the program.

The IME experience has given the cadets of the UMIP invaluable skills and knowledge for their futures as merchant marine officers.

International Marine Experts (IME) is a diversified maritime services company that provides assistance and advice to freight companies in the maritime industry on topics such as maritime security, consulting, investigation of maritime accidents, malfunctions and damage to vessels, and other matters.

In addition, IME is an organization of engineers and highly qualified naval architects with vast experience, committed to a policy of local and international professional service in markets with the highest quality standards.

The relationship IME – UMIP has produced positive results in terms of technical training required by all professionals in the maritime industry.

In total, 21 cadets of the specialties of Navigation and Naval Machinery have received practical experience at IME, carrying out inspections on board ships, both in the country and abroad.

At EMI, the cadets have acquired relevant competence on key issues in the maritime industry, such as inspections, as observers, preparation and review of documentation, according to instructions and support in the certification process by interacting with the Panama Maritime Authority, familiarization and updating of database, preparation of draft Certification (CCC, CEC, CRC, IOPP, IAPP, LLISPP, ITC, AFC, etc..), and site inspections (Bunker Survey, Annual Safety Inspections ASI On Hire and Off Hire).
