The Manager of the Colon Free Zone, Mr. Leopoldo Benedetti, received a delegation of Surinam, headed by the country’s Vice President, Kenneth Foe and other Cabinet members.
The Republic of Surinam is in the northern part of South America. Its capital is Paramaribo and it has a population of 500,050 (according to the 2010 census). It covers an area of 63,251 square kilometers, bordered by Guyana and French Guiana.

The Surinam commission visited the Colon Free Zone to view commercial movements, to implement a similar system in that country and strengthen commercial ties between Panama and Surinam.
Leopoldo Benedetti states that the Surinam delegation was keen to know Panama and the commercial activities of the free zone in order to promote products.
“Receiving these representations of other states in the free zone is very important for the growth and development of the area.” said Benedetti.
