China Merchants Ports buys port of Paranaguá, Brazil

China Merchants Ports has bought 90% of the Brazilian company TCP Participaçoes, which manages the port of Paranaguá, the second largest in the South American country, located in the State of Paraná (south), EFE reported.

The agreement between the two companies closed for about $935 million, TCP Participaçoes said in a statement to the financial market.

Brazilian company to build hydroelectric plant

A unit of Brazilian conglomerate Odebrecht has won a concession to design, build, maintain and operate a 213 MW hydroelectric power station in Panama, company sources told.

State-owned utility Egesa awarded the project to Odebrecht Energy Luxembourg, which submitted a bid of $1.05 billion.

The Panamanian government was seeking a “strategic partner” for the construction of the Chan II hydroelectric plant.
