Panama Canal tonnage could reach 521 million

The Panama Canal could achieve a movement of 521 million tons in 2025, representing growth of 62% in 12 years or so, according to projections by the Panama Canal Authority.

“It’s not easy to make these projections because the expansion of the Canal and post-Panamax vessels will create many things that are still difficult to predict,” said the economist Nicolas Ardito Barletta at the Latin American Business Forum.

CANAL VIEWS COROZAL The proposal to build a new container port in the Corozal area will be elevated to the Board of the Panama Canal Authority in the coming months, said the administrator, Jorge Luis Quijano, at a forum “Panama 2013 Capital Projects & Infrastructure”. The Corozal port would be the third on the Pacific side of the Canal. The two existing ports are run by Panama Ports Company and the Singapore Port Authority.
