Saudi Arabia has condemned the burning of a Quran in the United States, calling it a “heinous act” that runs counter to the teachings of Islam.
In a statement released Saturday, the Saudi Foreign Ministry said the act of burning the Quran “constitutes a flagrant violation of the principles of Islamic faith and humanitarian values.”
The statement said the kingdom reaffirms its rejection of any act that constitutes a violation of any religious beliefs or sacred texts.
The burning of the Quran, Islam’s holy book, sparked outrage in the Muslim world and prompted protests in Afghanistan.
Saudi Arabia on Saturday emphatically censured the consuming of duplicates of the Qur’an by radicals in the Danish capital, Copenhagen, “in another provocative move toward the feeling of millions of Muslims all over the planet.”
The Service of International concerns emphasized the Realm’s situation, which “emphatically dismisses this multitude of obtrusive demonstrations that have sadly been rehashed in a few European capitals as of late, under the guise of opportunity of articulation, without an unmistakable response toward shutting down these practices.”
